The Names in This Verse (9)

789 trivikramaḥ

the three-strider, who crossed the worlds in three steps

Vāmana's expansion

S.B.G 8.20-22

As Vāmana-Trivikrama, Viṣṇu covers the three worlds in three steps; Bali recognizes that the dwarf's three steps are nothing less than the Lord's own eternal measurement of space.

790 trilokēśaḥ

lord of the three worlds

791 vāmanaḥ

the Dwarf

S.B.G 8.18-22

Viṣṇu appears as the dwarf Vāmana at Bali's sacrifice; after taking three steps and covering earth, sky, and heaven, he gently places his third step on Bali's head, pushing him to Pātāla.

792 śrīdharaḥ

bearer of Śrī

S.B.G 10.2.7

Śrī (Lakṣmī) permanently resides on the chest of Viṣṇu as the Śrīvatsa mark; 'śrī-dhara' (bearer of Śrī) indicates not merely an ornament but the Lord's inseparability from divine beauty and auspiciousness.

793 pumān

the Person, the supreme Male principle

794 hṛṣīkeśaḥ

master of the senses

B.G 1.15

Arjuna addresses Kṛṣṇa as 'Hṛṣīkeśa' (master of the senses) at the beginning of the Bhagavad Gītā; later, in chapter 11, after the viśvarūpa, he uses it again in reverent acknowledgment of Kṛṣṇa's sovereignty.

795 vāsudevaḥ

son of Vasudeva, who dwells in all things

796 padmanābhaḥ

lotus-naveled

S.B.G 10.87.14

The cosmic form with a lotus growing from the navel, from which Brahmā arises, is one of Kṛṣṇa's eternally celebrated manifestations; the Vedas address him in this form in S.B.G 10.87.

797 mahāhradaḥ

the vast lake of being

S.B.G 11.14.7

'Great lake'—the vast reservoir of being; in the Uddhava Gītā, Kṛṣṇa describes himself as the inexhaustible source from which all seekers can drink without diminishing the whole.
