The Names in This Verse (5)

39 śūravaṃśaikadhīḥ

the one focus of the Śūra dynasty

the Vṛṣṇis descended from Śūra

S.B.G 9.24.53-63

The ninth Skandha traces Kṛṣṇa's lineage through Śūra; Kṛṣṇa is named the 'sole glory' this entire royal line produced—its purpose fulfilled by his birth.

40 śauriḥ

descendant of Śūra (grandson of Śūra, son of Vasudeva)

S.B.G 10.50.2

Śauriḥ (grandson of Śūra or son of the Śūra-lineage Vasudeva) is Kṛṣṇa's patronymic; the Mahābhārata also calls him Śauri frequently as a heroic title in the Udyogaparva.

41 kaṃsaśaṅkāviṣādakṛt

who struck Kaṃsa with dread and despair

S.B.G 10.1.35-37

When the sky-voice (ākaśavāṇī) pronounces that Devakī's eighth child will be Kaṃsa's destroyer at the wedding moment, Kaṃsa grabs his sword to kill Devakī in terror and despair.

42 vasudevollasacchaktiḥ

whose power surged forth through Vasudeva

S.B.G 10.3.44-47

Vasudeva carries the divine infant through the stormy night; Ananta Śeṣa spreads his hood over them as an umbrella; the Yamunā parts—Vasudeva's power illumined by the Lord's presence.

43 devakyaṣṭamagarbhagaḥ

who entered the eighth womb of Devakī

S.B.G 10.2.9-10

Yoga-māyā transfers the sixth embryo (Balarāma) from Devakī's womb to Rohiṇī's; Kṛṣṇa himself then descends as the eighth conception, entering Devakī as a portion of Viṣṇu's radiance.
