Gokula · II. Birth in the Prison

Verse 16

स्वशक्त्युद्धाटिताशेषकपाटः पितृवाहकः ।शेषोरगफणाच्छत्रश् शेषोक्ताख्यासहस्रकः॥

svaśaktyuddhāṭitāśeṣakapāṭaḥ pitṛvāhakaḥ ·śeṣoragaphaṇācchatraś śeṣoktākhyāsahasrakaḥ

The Names in This Verse (4)

84 svaśaktyuddhāṭitāśeṣakapāṭaḥ

by whose own power all the prison doors flew open

S.B.G 10.3.45

Whose power opened all doors and bolts by themselves — every locked door of the prison swings open by itself as Vasudeva approaches; Yoga-māyā enacting his will.

85 pitṛvāhakaḥ

who was borne by his father

S.B.G 10.3.47

Carried by his father — the Supreme Being allows himself to be carried as a newborn by Vasudeva across the Yamunā; this image of divine dependency is treasured.

86 śeṣoragaphaṇācchatraḥ

canopied by the hood of Śeṣa the serpent

sheltered across the Yamunā

S.B.G 10.3.50

Sheltered by Śeṣa's snake-hoods as an umbrella — as Vasudeva crosses in heavy rain, the cosmic serpent Śeṣa rises behind them and spreads his thousand hoods as a protective canopy.

87 śeṣoktākhyāsahasrakaḥ

whose thousand names were uttered by Śeṣa

S.B.G 10.8.15

Whose thousand names are declared by Śeṣa too — in the Pāñcarātra tradition, Ananta Śeṣa proclaims the sahasranāma; the Parāśara hymn traces through this lineage.
